Today is a bittersweet day for me. My baby, literally, turned one year old today! Whaaaaaaaaaaaa! I have to admit that I wasn’t looking forward to this day. Vanessa’s first year went by too fast! I LOVE the baby stage. I think since Vanessa is our last, I’m having an even harder time knowing that I won’t be going through the baby stage anymore
Some of you are probably thinking that I’m crazy. I’ve heard many moms and dads say that they do not miss that stage. Yes, the baby stage is hard. In fact, it’s not easy at all. And when you have two other younger kids, there are A LOT of stressful moments. With Vanessa, it was even harder in the beginning because she had colic and acid reflux. We didn’t experience that with our first two so I felt like a first time mom again. I spent the first 3 months pacing back and forth while she cried even though I was carrying her in my arms during odd hours of the night. But you know what? I would still do it all over again.
Now Vanessa and I are buddies. When I’m not working, she’s always with me. She’s in my arms, on my hip or in a baby carrier that I wear in front of me. For the most part, she is a happy baby. But she can be feisty! When she gets mad, oh my! My husband and I call her “0 to 60″, meaning that she can go from 0 miles per hour to 60 miles per hour in 1 second! Don’t you dare take anything out of her hands! And when she’s sleepy but can’t nap in her crib because of our busy schedule, she is one fussy baby!
At the same time, she is soooooo sweet! She gives the best hugs. The best! We have so many tender moments. Especially when we’re putting her to bed. She puts her head on my shoulders and holds onto me tight. Then with one hand, she will pat me on the back. She does this every time I put her to sleep. When people talk to her, she tilts her head towards me. We call it her shy look. She has become extremely playful these days. She loves playing peek-a-boo and just crawls and stands everywhere while getting into everything! If there was a baby crawling race, she would would win! Don’t let her petite size fool you! She’s not the best eater but she’s a great sleeper. I can’t have everything. She LOVES LOVES LOVES her sisters! Thank God for Alexis and Makayla. They have helped me so much to soothe, calm and entertain her. Vanessa will laugh at everything they do. She loves when Alexis crawl chases her around the house. She’s not too fond of car rides and hates strollers but loves yogurt and carrots and loves to watch her sister dance in dance class. At 1, she still has no teeth! But I do love her gummy smile. It’s all in her eyes! And cheeks! She also loves Daddy. When she hears the door open when he comes home from work, she screams and crawls as fast as she could to the door. It is the cutest thing in the world!
My little Nessa, I’m going miss you being a baby but at the same time, I look forward the next stage in your life. I look forward to all the new milestones you’ll reach. I love how interactive you’re getting and I can’t wait until you say mama. I love your beautiful smile and our cuddle sessions. I love the way you look at me like I’m your everything. It makes my heart melt. I hope that you will always look at me that way. Thank you for the last 12 months! You challenged me and enriched my life at the same time. I love you with all my heart and so does Daddy and your sisters. Our family is better with you in it. Happy birthday my love.

Baby Vanessa is already 9 months! She has been my little buddy.
These girls crack each other up! They get the giggles and they can’t stop. It’s really cute.
All 3 of my love bugs! Just want to squeeze them!

I’ve known these girls since they were 11 months and 4 years old. Now look at them! Especially Alex who is now 10! Crazy!

I LOVE this look that Rick is giving Chris. It is so sweet!
